The Student Government Association is working toward change with their new student rights initiative. They hope to express to the Lynn administration that it is time for students to have a stronger voice in Lynn University policies and decisions. As the fall semester is underway, it is clear that students have a concern about various issues affecting their community, education and overall college experience.
Last year, the student government’s direct link to the president and cabinet members was through the Vice President of Student Development; however, this year SGA hopes to bridge the gap and insitute more one-on-one communication with the administration.
A much-anticipated meeting with President Kevin Ross and Student Government Association President Joey McNamara is planned for the middle of October. McNamara plans to discuss student parking, food service and other topics at the heart of the students.
At last week’s SGA meeting, President McNamara addressed the senate by stating, “It is time for students to make change. We can make change and we will make change! It is a collaborative effort between the executive board, the student leaders and you, the students, to make this happen!”
McNamara explained that it is necessary for the student’s voices to be heard. Furthermore, he explained that this hopes to be a ground-breaking year for the students at Lynn university. Without the students, Lynn University would not exist.
For more information about student rights and the ability to help make change happen, please attend the next SGA meeting on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Student Center. |

COFFEE AND CULTURE
Coffee in the Courtyard Kicks the Year Off With a

Although the rain was coming down profusely, nothing could stop the tremendous turnout for the first Coffee in the Courtyard of the academic year. This event, which is usually held in the Perper Plaza, was relocated to the Knights Court which was actually setup and decorated beautifully in honor of September’s Spanish Heritage Month.
Coffee in the Courtyard is a once a month break from the stress of classes and work, where people can hangout, have a snack, listen to music and of course, enjoy some coffee.
The Knights of the Roundtable (KOR,) who hosted the event, celebrated and relaxed in a Spanish style. There were Spanish flags setup on every table, nachos, churros and Spanish type sodas being served.
Although the weather prohibited students and faculty from celebrating the event outside, KOR did an excellent job providing the campus a break from the everyday stress of college, even if it was only for one hour.

The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is collecting items to help the needs of soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan this month.
Due to the war in Iraq, there is a desperate need for typical, every day items. Anysoldier.com is a website where the soldiers can go online and request these essentials. Every month, SAAC will choose two different places to donate items. Each team is given the duty to come up with these articles, and they are then sent out to their respected locations. Such necessities include: foot powder, hair ties, hand sanitizer, visine, food, shampoo, and soap.
“Try to put yourself in their shoes and think about what it must be like,” said Christie Schade, senior and President of SAAC. “We have access to a Walmart or a grocery store whenever we need supplies. They don’t have this access, so it really does help them out when people do things like this for them.”
SAAC is an organization made up of athletes who are involved in community service.
“This is a great way for Lynn athletics to kick start their community involvement program for the 2008-2009 calendar,” stated Katy McNicoll, senior and Chief of SAAC. “SAAC has tried to stress the importance of giving back to the community. It feels great to do something like this and help those in need.”
For more information or inquiries to donate, please visit www.anysoldier.com.

Hillel is back at it again as they put together for the first time an All-You -Can-Eat Sushi dinner for $5 in the Green Center. Hillel had platters of sushi, along with soy sauces, sodas, fortune cookies and donuts for dessert.
The event started at 8 p.m. In less than half an hour all of the sushi was gone.
“I think it’s pretty sweet,” said Tully Bertorelli, sophomore. “The sushi was awesome; it always brings people together.”
The major misconception about Hillel is that students must be Jewish in order to participate. Hillel social events, such as “Jewshi”, are open to all.
“It is a great way for the Lynn Community to see what Hillel is all about,” said Hillel President Ryan Feigenblatt, senior.
Hillel plans on organizing another ‘Jewshi’ event next semester due to it’s success.

The NFL Football season has finally begun and everyone is watching their favorite team while craving their favorite treat, chicken wings. This special treat is synonymous with football and with the craving for good wings at a seasonal high, the very important question is raised, “Which Boca Raton restaurant serves the best chicken wings?” After sampling four local spots in the area, the iPulse has created the following.
Duffy’s Sports Bar and Grill, located on 21212 St. Andrews Blvd. next to the Boca Raton Town Center Mall, serves up one of the best chicken wings in Boca Raton. Duffy’s promise is to serve large breaded chicken wings with their homemade sauces and remains to be “the place for wings.” Customers have the option of ordering their wings sweet and sour, original, mild, hot, atomic and honey garlic. Duffy’s even offers the option for customers to order boneless chicken tenders.
“I love Duffy’s hot wings,” said Meagan Fitzgerald, senior. “They are the perfect amount of spice and Duffy’s always provides a large serving.”
The iPulse also researched other establishments that serve up this tasty and addicting treat. Millers Ale House, located at 1200 Yamato Rd., serves up wings (breaded or plain) with your choice of sauce. Miller’s also dares their customers to try their hottest sauce, Mt. Saint Helens. Also, Millers serves up their famous Zinger’s, which are their boneless chicken tenders.
For students that live on campus without a car, Nippers also serves excellent wings and delivers them to the comfort of the Resident Hall. Nippers wings are not breaded and have a spicy tangy sauce. Ifone gets a craving for wings at midnight give Nippers a call, they deliver until 3 a.m.
iPulse hopes you take into the account these excellent places to satisfy your next chicken wings craving. |
