Most of the Lynn community will be watching the Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2009. However, one Lynn personality will be on the sidelines. Lynn’s beloved Big Lu, also known as Chris Dillon, will be sporting orange rather then blue on game day. Dillon has been cast as the Orange Bowl’s beloved orange mascot, Obie. For Dillon, the opportunity couldn’t be juicier.
“I will get to meet a lot of people in the football world. I’ve loved college football my whole entire life and I can’t wait to entertain thousands to hundreds of thousands of people watching it on New Year’s Day,” said Dillon, junior.
The opportunity to be Big Lu for the last two years has given Dillon the chance to do what he loves best; “I like to show school spirit. I’ve always been a happy person who loves to entertain my friends and family,” said Dillon. “Representing my school and being involved in the community, seeing a little kid’s face smile when I make his day or being involved as the schools mascot with Make-A-Wish foundation, that’s one of the greatest enjoyments I’ve had.”
Throughout the months leading up to the Orange Bowl, Dillon will be making special appearances as Obie at venues around South Florida to promote the big game. Appearances will include youth football games, University of Miami football games and Orange Bowl parties and festivals.
Dillon’s experiences as both Big Lu and Obie will help him get one step closer to his dream of one day being the mascot for a major NBA or MLB team. |

Role Model: a person whose behavior, example, or success is or can be emulated by others, especially by younger people.
With that being said, there are many Lynn University students that look up to a wide variety of people in their life. Whether it is someone they might never meet, or someone who has been in their life forever, this is a person they truly look up to. The iPulse asked students, who is your role model, and why?

Palm Beach Drama Works will be holding a play entitled “A Moon For the Misbegotten” in the West Palm Beach community from Oct. 17 to Nov. 30 for anyone interested in viewing local performances.
“The productions that are produced through our regional theatres are extraordinary,” said Adam Simpson, professor. “Wherever you go, whether it be Dramaworks in Palm Beach, Caldwell Theatre in Boca, Mosaic in Plantation or Naked Stage in Miami, plus a whole gang of companies in, and in between those areas, you’re going to be satisfied with what you get.”
For students interested in acting and involvement with the theatre, the drama program at Lynn University is taken very seriously. In the acting classes, memorizing scenes and learning to step out of your shell are a big part of the experience.
In his sophomore year of high school, after not making the football team, Simpson became a drama geek. “If I cant be a football player,” said Simpson, “I’ll play one on the stage.” Simpson now works as a professional teacher, actor and technician.
Students who want to overcome their fear of acting may benefit from enrolling in an acting class. “This class has helped me to come out of my shell,” said Hillary Dever, junior. “I have stopped being so shy around people I don’t know.” A good way to experience acting is to attend local plays firsthand.

The Lynn University Fighting Knightros are back in action. This year, the great group of girls on the Lynn University dance team will be entertaining the crowds at home basketball games.
Tori Plyler, coach and personal trainer, has helped the team improve tremendously in just two short years. The Knightros now have new uniforms, choreography, workouts and practices. If all goes according to plan, the team hopes to begin competing in the spring.
There are a total of nine girls on the team this year. Many of the Knightros have backgrounds in various genres of dance. Their diversity contributes to original routines to various types of music such as hip-hop, rap, lyrical and reggae.
The team has gone down in size this year, from twenty members to nine. However, the smaller number has allowed for a stronger team with less quarreling.
Rosen, a senior majoring in communication, is from Woodbridge, VA. She loves being a part of the Knightros.
“My favorite part about being a Knightro is performing at the basketball games,” said Rosen. “I love dancing on the sidelines and at halftime. I’m a performer, so whenever I can put on a good show, I always love it. I love my teammates, past and present.”
Rosen is one of the team’s biggest leaders. “Stephanie puts her heart and soul into this team,” said Danielle Castellano, sophomore. “She makes me want to get better and better with each practice and performance.”
“I always try and make my teammates happy and try to guide them in the right direction,” said Rosen. “I will practice with them as much as they want until they get the move right.”
“My strongest asset is my love for dance and that I’m a very good listener,” said Rosen. “I keep a very open and tight relationship with my teammates. They are the most important part to a successful team.”
Be a true Fighting Knight. Come out and support your Fighting Knight basketball teams along with the Knightros. |
