Christie Schade, senior, is a multi-talented athlete. As a volleyball player, she has set school records for Lynn University, but she also focuses much time on her future and career.
Schade, originally from Pembroke Pines, has always been very interested in sports. In high school she not only played volleyball, but also ran track and played basketball and softball. When it came down to college, Schade knew she needed to focus on one sport.
“My mom said to me that if I wanted to play a sport in college I needed to stick with one.” Schade said. “It was more important to be great at one sport, then just good at many.”
Recently, Schade set a school record for career number of digs. She tallied 29 digs against Flagler, and then another eight later in the day to reach 1648. Schade hopes that setting this record will continue the strong season to come out on top.
She is studying criminal justice and hopes to obtain her masters degree in emergency management. She will eventually strive for the FBI. From there she hopes to become a member of the SWAT team for the federal government.
“I first thought I wanted to join the military when I was younger, but I soon realized that wasn’t the type of lifestyle I wanted and that I am too outspoken of a person to conform to one idea.” Schade expressed. “I still want some sort of a disciplined lifestyle, and this is where I will find it.”
Long term goals for Schade are to eventually become a sniper. There are no females as of yet to join this group and she would like to change that.
“I feel I have an advantage because I played college sports. I understand the disciplined lifestyle and know how to work with a team for a common goal.”
The volleyball team has a handful of matches left this season, and with continued hard work by Schade and the rest of her team, they will work hard to come out on top. |

“Sex Drive” is a comedy that will have viewers laughing out loud.
Ian Lafferty (Josh Zuckerman) is a dorky boy that works at a doughnut kiosk at the mall. Lafferty is always getting picked on by his hot older brother that drives a GTO.
The 18-year-old cannot catch a break with women and is about to go to college unexperienced. He seems to suffer from a common tale of being the friend, but never the boyfriend. He finds the perfect girl who is everything he has ever dreamed of through a facade that he had created online. Through this facade she thinks he is a star football player that drives a 69 GTO.
Lafferty sets upon an adventure to Knoxville to meet her face-to-face. During his road trip, he is escorted by his best friend Lance (Clark Duke) who talks him into stealing his brother’s GTO and inviting their other best friend Felicia (Amanda Crew).
This adventure leads to many comical mishaps along the way that many college students are sure to relate to.
“Sex Drive” was reviewed and given four stars. |

How Low Can It Go?
Gas Prices are Finally Plummeting |

In the last few weeks, gas prices have taken a turn for the better and dropped significantly. South Florida has seen gas prices rise as high as $4.50 per gallon and more than $5 for diesel.
Recently the price of a barrel of oil dropped below $65 and it is expected to keep on the same downward pattern. With the world expecting a recession gas has slipped into a 14 month low.
“The reason prices are going down so far so fast is that they should not have been that high in the first place,” said Mike O’Connor, President of the Virginia Petroleum, Convenience and Grocery Association. “Two reasons they were: fear and speculation.”
In South Florida right now, gas prices can be found for as low as $2.49 per gallon, which is good news for students running a tight budget.
“It is nice that the prices of gas are going down, especially for students,” said Armando Castillo, senior. “I now have more money in my budget for books and school supplies.”
People travel more in the winter, therefore it will be interesting to see where gas prices will go from here. Furthermore, hurricane season is almost over and prices may continue to drop over the next few months. Only time will tell.

Ben Folds. Above Right: T.I. |
| |
By Billy Hartigan
Staff Writer T.I., the self proclaimed “King Of The South”, is back with his sixth studio album, “Paper Trail.”
There has been a lot of anticipation leading up to this album. The first set of songs on the album read unmistakably like pages from a diary. They are deeply personal and insightful. The second part of “Paper Trail” is simply money. In other words, the songs illustrate the fun and the swagger that come with fortune.
The production on the album is where it really shines. It has a great selection of beats that borrow elements from all types of music.
“Paper Trail” is an outstanding album that should not be overlooked. This album is an instant hip-hop classic, and possibly one of the best albums of the year. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
Ben Folds is most recognized as a solo artist and as the front-man pianist of the band Ben Folds Five. Folds is known for a sound that combines the worlds of Jazz and Power Rock.
His new album, “Way to Normal,” is not a departure from anything listeners have heard from Folds. It lacks any indication of new direction or significant growth. However, it is still a great record from one of the most consistent writers in pop music today.
The anger on this album gives it a little bit of a different direction, but not much. Overall, there is not much new material for regular listeners of Ben Folds.
Although the quality of this album is great, especially the lyrics, it is more of the same. I am going to give it a 2 out of 5.

Greg Fino, junior, enjoys riding the waves weekly at South Beach Pavilion. He also visits Spanish River Beach regularly as well.
“Living in Florida has its perks,” Fino said. “If I’m bored, I can jump in the car and drive down the street to the ocean.”
Fino is not the only one who owns a surfboard at Lynn University. It is a very popular hobby for Lynn students and a great way to get off campus.
Fino usually hits the waves after classes from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. If he had it his way, he would go Sunday mornings because that is when the waves are the best. He checks the surf by going online to see what the waves look like.
Not only does Fino enjoy surfing, but he also enjoys driving around campus on a mini-dirt bike. It actually looks like it was made for a little kid. The dirt bike can reach relatively high speeds. Fino enjoys racing his friends on their bikes.
“Florida was a great choice to attend school,” said Fino. Fino’s from Connecticut where the weather is gorgeous in the summer, but cold throughout the rest of the year, unlike Florida. The surf in Florida is excellent and Fino recommends trying it out to any one who enjoys the ocean.
